The Whistler estate had a long and prestigious history with an interesting turn. Winemaking has been in the Pfeiffer family for four generations but took a step forward with Martin Pfeiffer, this winemaker fo the family. He grew up surrounded by vines and soon enough became Penfolds’ Kalimna Estate Head Vineyard Manager, a prestigious position in a prestigious estate. That gave him the opportunity to acquire cuttings from the famous ‘Grange’ vineyard in 1994, therefore jump-starting his personal project: Whistler Wines. Martin’s son Sam now runs the estate using organic and biodynamic practices to produce genuine and original wines, far from Barossa Valley standards. Indeed, he uses unexpected grapes and winemaking technics to yield bold but elegant, modern gems which totally blew our minds.
